Meriva Power Steering Fault ... GM recall ?

I own a 2006 Meriva 1.4 life which over the last month has developed an annoying power steering fault ... the EPS (electronic power steering) light can come on and simultaniously the power steering fails and becomes very heavy ... it appears to be more prevelent at low speeds but i think this is possibly due to the fact that you need to turn the wheel to a greater degree when travelling at slow speeds ... for example you tend not to have to do a 90 degree right or left turrn on a motorway...
