Engine management light at around 30 to 40 mph

My wife informs me that the engine management light comes on when she reaches somewhere between 30 and 40 mph.

Anyone have any ideas why?

I have heard of this happening on many vehicles but I thought it was associated with then going into 'limp mode'. That doesn't seem to happen here as there is no restriction on speed.
